I’ll help you get plugged into Portland, Maine.
Moving to a new city can be tough.
It’s easy to find the best restaurants, breweries, and coffee shops (thanks Yelp/Google/Facebook), but it’s an entirely different story when it comes to meeting people, especially if you don’t know anyone. This website exists to introduce you to both the things you should do, but also people you can connect with, helping you get plugged-in faster.
I’ll try to connect you with others.
So here’s the deal. I’ll do my best to help you get plugged-into the area. It’s highly likely we won’t like all the same things, but I can point you in the right direction and also introduce you to people I’ve met who you should talk to. If you don’t want to meet in person, that’s fine, I can send recommendations over the interwebs. We can also meet for coffee if that’s your thing.
Why are you doing this?
I was prompted after reading this Reddit thread. I like the area and don’t think people should struggle to find stuff to do (and people to talk to). Maine is a great state, but we tend to be in our own little world sometimes, so this is an effort to branch out a bit more than normal.
“I’m thinking about moving to Maine”
Still reach out! I can give you my biased outlook on most of the state.
Over time we’ll be adding other people who would enjoy showing you around the city and helping you get settled in – if you want to volunteer your time please reach out.
Your Tour Guide
Hey! I’m Luke. I’m a native Mainer who used to live in Boston before returning back to the Portland area a couple years ago. My wife and I left Boston because we found it to be a soul-sucking place to live (sorry Boston). I enjoy Portland because it has all the character and things to do like Boston has, but with a less stressful vibe.
I work remotely (aka from a computer) for a company based in Nashville, TN, so this “project” helps me meet others in the area. I love Maine and want to see the area do well (and for other young people to move back because the young to old people ratio is way too high). If you want my social media to confirm that I’m not a creeper, here you go.
